The app often works well. I tried it out in comparison with some other apps that provide similar features and generally preferred Maluuba. The app performed well in response to such questions as "Where am I?" "How should I drive to Westport Connecticut?" "What is the square root of three?" "Should I be taking Pravastatin?" "What are my appointments today?" "Send me to a good Chinese restaurant." "Open Note Everything." It failed to process "Take a note" or "Make a note for myself," giving me reminders instead of notes. Since I first reviewed this app, it has gained access to my contacts and does a creditable job of recognizing some proper names, although there are also quite a few proper names that it can't handle. Because of these new capabilities, I have raised my rating from three stars to four. As a linguist, I am enormously impressed by the capabilities of speech recognition programs like Maluuba. When I was studying for my Ph.D. in linguistics, the capabilities now exhibited by Maluuba were beyond anything I expected to see in my lifetime.
